Plot Summary

For the roguishly charming Captain Jack Sparrow, the crystalline waters of the Caribbean, like the high seas around the globe, are a great playground of adventure and mystery. But Jack’s untroubled life is shattered when his nemesis, Captain Barbossa, steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the Governor’s beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Swann. Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Will Turner, joins forces with Jack to hijack the fastest ship in the British fleet, the HMS Interceptor, in a daring attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl. Sparrow, Turner and their crew are in turn chased by Elizabeth’s betrothed, the debonair and ambitious Commodore Norrington, aboard the HMS dauntless. Unbeknownst to Will, there is a curse which has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead – when exposed to moonlight, they are exposed to living skeletons. The curse they carry can be broken, but only if a previously plundered treasure is restored.

Main Characters

Johnny Depp is Captain Jack Sparrow, the nefarious pirate and former Captain of the Black Pearl who will drink, swear, pilfer, and swash-buckle his way back to the Black Pearl to reclaim his title of Captain.

Keira Knightley is Elizabeth Swann, the aristocratic beauty that has a penchant for trouble, pirates, and shiny objects, and maybe, Mr. Turner.

Orlando Bloom is Will Turner, the ill-fated orphan boy who strives to raise his social rank; a feat that is wearisome considering his new best friend is none other than the puckish Jack Sparrow.

Jack Davenport is Norrington, the ridiculously stuffy and proper member of the Royal Army, alleged fiancé to Miss Swann, and a man whose hatred for pirates provokes him to run every last pirate ship off his maiden seas.

Geoffrey Rush is Captain Barbossa, the wily pirate who overthrows Sparrow’s captainship, steals the Pearl, and runs the ship while under a heavy curse.
